The State Democracy Research Initiative invites you to join us for “Public Law in the States: The Work of State Supreme Courts” on Friday, May 30, from 9:00-10:30am Central Time. A light breakfast will be provided starting at 8:30am, and the panel will be followed by a reception. This event will take place in person in the Alumni Lounge at the Pyle Center, with the option to attend virtually.
Participating justices from around the country will share their experiences and perspectives and help to shine a light on the important work of state high courts. Topics of discussion will include how state court systems are distinctive, how state-level approaches to adjudication might differ from federal approaches, and aspects of state law that warrant greater attention from scholars and the public.
The State Democracy Research Initiative is delighted to welcome Justice C. Shannon Bacon (New Mexico Supreme Court), Justice Peter Killough (Maryland Supreme Court), Justice Bill Mims (Ret.) (Virginia Supreme Court), Justice Paige Petersen (Utah Supreme Court), and Chief Justice Loretta Rush (Indiana Supreme Court). The panel will be moderated by State Democracy Research Initiative Co-Director Professor Rob Yablon.
