Johnson v. Wisconsin Elections Commission

01.04.22 Last Updated 04.15.22

In a case resolving the deadlock between the state legislature and governor over Wisconsin's state legislative and congressional redistricting maps, the State Democracy Research Initiative filed an amicus brief urging the Wisconsin Supreme Court to reject politically biased maps and the "least-change" approach for selecting new maps. On remand from the U.S. Supreme Court, the Wisconsin Supreme Court adopted the map originally passed by the legislature and vetoed the governor in accordance with the "least-change" standard.
