State constitutions are distinctive documents—in the rights they confer, the governmental structures they establish, and the ways they change over time. They are not miniature federal constitutions, and they should be studied on their own terms. 50 Constitutions aims to make state constitutions more accessible.

50 Constitutions aims to make state constitutions more accessible by providing a central repository of searchable constitutional text and an array of supplemental resources and research tools. The website is a project of the University of Wisconsin Law School’s State Democracy Research Initiative, in collaboration with the University of Virginia’s Karsh Institute of Democracy and the Karsh Center for Law and Democracy at the UVA School of Law.
