On March 7th, the State Democracy Research Initiative and the Elections Research Center at UW-Madison hosted the first event in our Election Matters 2025 series: “Understanding State Supreme Court Elections: Wisconsin and Beyond,” sponsored by Stafford Rosenbaum LLP.

On November 21st, the State Democracy Research Initiative and the People's Parity Project hosted a virtual panel, "Understanding Judicial Ethics Enforcement."

On November 14th, the State Democracy Research Initiative hosted Professor Josh Douglas to discuss his recent book “The Court v. The Voters: The Troubling Story of How the Supreme Court Has Undermined Voting Rights.”

On October 18th, the State Democracy Research Initiative and the Elections Research Center at UW-Madison hosted the final event in our Election Matters 2024 series: “Safeguarding the Vote: Election Subversion Risks & Responses,” sponsored by Stafford Rosenbaum LLP.

On September 27th, the State Democracy Research Initiative hosted a panel discussion that discussed the role of state constitutions and institutions in addressing housing shortages, as well as questions of development planning and the rights of unhoused people.

On September 20th, the State Democracy Research Initiative hosted Marcus Gadson of Campbell University School of Law to discuss his forthcoming book “Sedition: How America’s Constitutional Order Emerged From Violent Crisis.”

On September 13th the State Democracy Research Initiative and the Elections Research Center at UW-Madison hosted the third event in our Election Matters 2024 series: “The Promise & Perils of AI in American Elections,” sponsored by Stafford Rosenbaum LLP.

On July 11th, the State Democracy Research Initiative and the Elections Research Center at UW-Madison hosted the second event in the Election Matters 2024 series: “Year in Review: Democracy Litigation in SCOTUS and the States” sponsored by Stafford Rosenbaum LLP.

In May 2024, the State Democracy Research Initiative hosted its fourth annual Public Law in the States conference, convening legal scholars and state supreme court justices to discuss a range of state-level issues at the intersection of law and democracy.
