Education Rights and State Constitutions

On September 12th, the State Democracy Research Initiative hosted a panel discussion: "Education Rights and State Constitutions." This panel highlighted the positive right to education found in state constitutions. Panelists discussed a range of topics, including the current landscape of public education, the impact of state constitutional provisions on public education funding and equality, and what state constitutions suggest about the respective roles of public and private schools. Panelists included Professors Scott Bauries (University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law), Suzanne Eckes (University of Wisconsin--Madison School of Education ), Janel George (Georgetown Law), and Preston Green (University of Connecticut School of Education). This panel was moderated by Professor Miriam Seifter (State Democracy Research Initiative).
