The State Democracy Research Initiative and the Elections Research Center at UW-Madison invite you to join us for “Election Matters 2023: Voting Rights and the Criminal Justice System” on Friday, October 13th from 3:00-4:15pm Central Time, with a reception to follow. The event is sponsored by Stafford Rosenbaum LLP. This event will take place in person in the Wisconsin Idea Room at the UW Madison School of Education, with the option to attend virtually. The event is approved for 1.5 CLE Credits.
Whether and how to afford the right to vote to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals are questions that have long generated legal and policy controversy. This panel will address current approaches and challenges to offender re-enfranchisement and voting in correctional facilities. Our panelists will include Naila Awan (New York Civil Liberties Union), Professor Michael Massoglia, (UW Madison Sociology), Professor Michael Morse (Penn Carey Law School), and Professor Michael Leo Owens (Emory Political Science). The panel will be moderated by the Election Research Center’s Director, Professor Barry Burden.
